Experience Traditional Decorative Wood Carving

For over thirty years, I have been a professional architectural woodcarver serving the needs of a distinguished and varied client list. I have worked with well-known architects and interior designers, with millwork and furniture companies who produce the highest quality product, with museums and pipe organ companies, and with metal foundries as a pattern maker. I have participated in prestigious restoration projects of public, residential and church buildings as well as new construction around the country. I have a broad practical and academic background in the decoration of historical architecture and can provide research and design services. I also work from supplied concept drawings, photographs and architectural CAD drawings.

All carving is accomplished by hand using traditional gouges, and other tools of the artisan carver.  When you require elements of a specific size, particular wood species or lettering, logo or graphic, there is no substitute for the crispness, integrity, and history of custom hand carving.

I have written extensively on the practice of woodcarving in a number of periodicals and in three books.  As an adjunct to this instructional writing, I teach classes for all ability levels at my shop in central Virginia.
